 Principles of
the Scout event - "The Scout Border Hike"
The Border Hike event (8 to 10 miles) is held at the Gradbach Scout Campsite, Quanford, near Buxton situated
in the beautiful Peak District hills. Gradbach is approximately seven miles from
Buxton, Derbyshire, Leek, Staffordshire and Macclesfield, Cheshire so this is
truly a rural hike.
-
The entry fee for the weekend is £37.50
per team of four scouts in the similar age range.
-
The team(s) from each participating
scout group must be accompanied by a leader.
-
A team consists of four scouts whose
combined age does not exceed 50 years.
-
The minimum age for contestants is 11
years, the maximum age 14 years, on 31st August in the year of
the hike.
-
Teams must camp at the site, arriving
on Friday, departing on Sunday.
-
The incident hike of maximum 10 miles
will take place on the Saturday. Four incidents during the hike will be
based on standard scout/guide practice.
-
Points will be awarded for navigation
and completion of the incidents, but not for speed. The event is not a race.
-
Pennants and certificates will be
awarded to all scouts and guides completing the hike. Trophies will be awarded to
First, Second and Third placed teams. The winning team will receive a cheque
for £75
-
On Sunday morning there will be a
‘Scouts Own’ service, followed by the presentation of awards.
